Game On
Linda and Elizabeth had their first ever baseball practice yesterday. We showed up a bit late, but it didn't matter much. Linda stepped out of the car and into the batters box; after a few lines of instruction from her coach she missed with her first swing and then connected with the second. There was a moment of panic as she wasn't quite sure where to run, but she did ultimately find her way to 1b. Elizabeth's hitting philosophy was a little different than Linda's. As the coach was explaining where to put her hands, she buried her face in my chest and clung on with all four limbs. We eventually got her little more comfortable and, with my help, she did swing and hit. We also ran the bases holding hands, which was kind of fun. Practice was interrupted a few times for a trip to the swings or slide, but they did get through it. Each of them said they enjoyed hitting more than fielding, so I'm hoping they'll stick with it for a while.

Play Ball
Linda and Elizabeth have finally gotten their Little League team assignment and they'll both be playing on the same team, the Cicadas! I'm not sure how this works yet as this Sunday will be their first ever game or practice or something. Updates to follow as I learn more.

The Curse Of The Jets Blanket
Drama? Intrigue? Mystery? An injured Welkah, Tawmy's broken ribs... After this wekeends games, I suggest those in New England ask Papa Nick to explain the curse of the Jets blanket.

GOL! GOL! GOL!

Last night Linda scored the first ever goal of her soccer career. Linda spent the majority of the game with her hands on her hips breathing heavily to let all of us know that princesses normally don’t work this hard. However, about 5 minutes in when her teammate Flora cleared the ball from the defensive end, Linda sprung into action. She picked up Flora’s clearance with two hands, positioned it in front of the opposing net, held off a would be defender with her booty, and right-footed the shot into the opposing goal. Not exactly a goal according to the rules, but she did kick it and it did go into the net. That was enough for me.

We're Talking About Practice
Yesterday was Linda's first day of soccer practice. She joined about 15 other 3,4,5 year old kids for a few passing and shooting drills. Kudos to Terry for providing her with the most color coordinated soccer outfit of the group (pink on pink with pink accents) and to Linda's ancestors for providing her with a clear 4-5" height advantage over every other kid on the pitch.

Why Can't Us?

The Jack Girls is a proud supporter of poor grammar, South Philadelphia linguistics, and viral marketing. In support of the Phillies first World Series appearance since 1993 we proudly proclaim WHY CAN'T US?!
(Why Can't Us) started with a Phils fan from Delaware calling in to a baseball radio show and asking a simple question. If other teams have done it, why can't us?

Linda Bowls!
Yesterday afternoon we took Linda bowling for the first time ever. She took to it very quickly and didn't want any help from Terry or I. After she got a few balls stuck on the lane we discovered a metal ramp that the alley had to make the game a little easier for kids. Not only did Linda love it, but she bowled an 86! Not bad for a 30lb first timer. Take a look at the movie below to see Linda picking up the spare.
