Ho, ho, ho...NO WAY!
In organizing the unofficial photo shelf today I came across the three photos with Santa to which I've dragged my kids- 2006 Linda 15 mo, 2008 Linda 3 & Elizabeth 14 mo, 2009 Linda 4 & Elizabeth 2. [Note: 2007 never happened because by the time we got through the anamatronic Dicken's Villiage at Macy's to Santa, Elizabeth was sound asleep and Linda was so freaked out she wouldn't even let me touch her, let alone sit on Santa's lap.] As you can see, we've progressed from me shoving Linda next to Santa for the shot to Auntie Kristen having to get in the shot (and some pretty upset faces despite) to fained smiles and a temporary grip on my hand. And why do I keep doing this even though it seems to bring discomfort and anxiety to my kids? Because it's a holiday tradition that people all over the world participate in. Shouldn't kids be excited to see Santa and make their wishes known? Shouldn't kids be very weary to sit on a stranger's lap and whisper their greatest hopes in his ear? I think the fact that the girls are cautious makes me happier than how the ultimate kid friendly holiday icon creeps them out amuses me. And this year they both get excited at the prospect/thought of seeing and talking to Santa, but the willing suspension of disbelief thins quickly when presented with a real guy. I'd kind of expect them to be as weary of the Easter bunny, grown-up size Dora, or even Jesus himself if asked to sit on their laps. After our latest Santa photo shoot, while eating mall nut & fruit mix nearby, Linda remembered something she had to tell Santa. I suggested we write him a letter/email, thinking that this might be more pleasant for her. Linda responded, "I think I better just tell him now while we're both here." and called him over to the fence to let him know about Cinderella's castle. At least our Santa photo trip has had positive effects on her efficiency.

Snow Day(s)
We had so much snow this weekend that School is closed today (Monday). Linda and Elizabeth had a great time rolling around in the snow all weekend long. This is the most snow either of them have ever seen in their lives.

Things Kids Say
Linda is usually the one who comes up with the zingers, but today it is Elizabeth's turn. Last night's bedtime didn't move all that smoothly. Elizabeth was a bit worked up because Terry was clipping her fingernails on the changing table. When the mood in the room started to turn south, I told Terry I would take over for her. When Terry and I made the switch, Elizabeth immediately pointed her finger inches from my nose and very sternly told me "I need you not to be angry at me."

GOL! GOL! GOL!
Last night Linda scored the first ever goal of her soccer career. Linda spent the majority of the game with her hands on her hips breathing heavily to let all of us know that princesses normally don’t work this hard. However, about 5 minutes in when her teammate Flora cleared the ball from the defensive end, Linda sprung into action. She picked up Flora’s clearance with two hands, positioned it in front of the opposing net, held off a would be defender with her booty, and right-footed the shot into the opposing goal. Not exactly a goal according to the rules, but she did kick it and it did go into the net. That was enough for me.

Sugar And Spice And Everything Nice
Last night Terry had a business appointment so I got to do bedtime/bathtime with the girls all by myself. Normally things go pretty smoothly when it is just the three of us, and with the exception of having to Heimlich Elizabeth after she half-swallowed a nickel, last night was no no different. We read books together and I got each of them down in their beds and shut out the lights. I planted a kiss on Elizabeth’s forehead and said “goodnight sweetheart, Daddy loves you.” She responded to my parental tenderness with a fart so noisy that even as I type this I still cannot believe a butt as tiny as hers could produce. Shouldn't the diaper muffle it a little? How can her micro-booty generate that much energy?
Next up was Linda. As I walked over to her bed she said “I can’t get comfortable, my bed is too hard.” I responded with “it’s bedtime and I cannot fix that now. Close you eyes and go to sleep. Daddy loves you.” She countered with a fart of her own that I can only describe as the sound a handful of pudding would make if it was thrown at a brick wall. Amazing. Just another night with my little angels.

We're Talking About Practice
Yesterday was Linda's first day of soccer practice. She joined about 15 other 3,4,5 year old kids for a few passing and shooting drills. Kudos to Terry for providing her with the most color coordinated soccer outfit of the group (pink on pink with pink accents) and to Linda's ancestors for providing her with a clear 4-5" height advantage over every other kid on the pitch.

I Look Like Daddy
I'm kind of relishing the last few months of being able to pick out Elizabeth's clothes without any resistance or input from her inner style sense. This morning, after a battle with Linda about why she couldn't wear the flower dress she wore on Sunday because it was not yet washed, nor the "light pink shorts to match this shirt" which do not exist, I dressed Elizabeth in some jean shorts and a pretty light blue t-shirt. She stood up on the changing table and grinned ear to ear as she ran her hands down her shirt over her chest and tummy. "I look ah Daddy", she squeaked through her smile. "You look like Daddy because you have on a blue shirt?" I asked. "Yeeahh! And belly!" she exclaimed with pride. "I love your little belly and Daddy's too", I replied, planting a kiss right on her bellybutton.
Linda Converts!
Well the pretty first communion dress may be the only thing keeping Linda in the Catholic church for the next few years. Yesterday, on our drive back from seeing Bonnie the Balloon Lady at the Fishtown Library, we passed our church. Stopped at the light at 12th street, Linda drops another "God bomb". Linda: "Is God in church right now?" My response: "Yes, god is always in church." L: "He's always in OUR church?" T (recognizing the Santa issues about to arise, I go vague): "You can find God in any church. He's not a regular person like you and me. You can talk to him when ever you want and he's all over the place helping people all the time." L: "So what are the priests there for?" Who swapped my 4-yr old out for Martin Luther in the car seat back there? Can't a mommy catch an existential break right before dinner? T: "The priests go to special school and are there to teach us about God and help make our communication with him more effective and meaningful" (btw my attempt to use big words to confuse&quiet/shock&awe has only lead to the girls using these words, both correctly and incorrectly, in public and general befuddlement of playground goers all over Philadelphia) L: "So they're like teachers?" T: "Yes. Do you want cheese on your hamburger tonight?"

Things Kids Say
We had dinner at the playground last night and on the way home Superwife swatted a mosquito in the car. Linda was a little freaked out about the mosquito and said:
I want a bug killer, A PRINCESS BUG KILLER, for my birthday because I don't want any bugs at my birthday. I don't want any bugs coming in to the house when they smell my yummy princess cake and eating it.

Wedding Weekend
We are getting ready to drive up to Boston this weekend for Auntie Amy and Uncle Matt's wedding. Linda and Elizabeth are excited about the wedding, but A little nervous about their flower girl responsibilities. I know they will do very well. Elizabeth's eye-scrape has healed very nicely and is almost back to normal. Check back soon for lot's of photos of the girls in their flower girl dresses.

Happy Fathers Day
Happy Fathers day to all of the Dad's in our family. I hope you have a wonderful time with those that care about you.
Linda, Elizabeth, and Terry took me to a Riversharks game last night, a minor league baseball team that plays just across the river in Camden, NJ. We got to have hotdogs, ice cream, go down on the field and run the bases, and get a black eye. (just in time for Auntie Amy's wedding next weekend.) Elizabeth took a spill down a set of steps in the 5th inning- luckily her face broke her fall. It's actually worse looking today. Superwife is doing everything she can to control the damage, hopefully it'll be gone by Saturday.

New Pics
Some new pictures were uploaded to the Flickr site this morning of Linda and Elizabeth playing in Grammie and Papa's pool, playing with chalk at the playground, Eating ice cream sundaes, and a super cool celery science experiment using my beer glasses. (Still not over that one.)

Weekend
A little less traveling than the past few weekends, but fun none the less. We were up early Saturday morning and at the sprayground minutes after it opened. Linda enjoyed the water a little more than Elizabeth did, but both girls had a good time. Then (in honor of flag day I guess) we took them to Betsy Ross' house to see a Punch and Judy puppet show. They were both a bit scared by an alligator puppet with a snapping mouth, but Linda and Elizabeth both sat and watched the whole thing. Sunday morning we were at the zoo bright and early folowed by a long nap, and then a trip to the playground. Lot's of fun stuff crammed into a short time, but that's just the way we like it.

Holy Schnikes Have We Done Some Travelling
Like the Partridge Family and Von Trapp's before us we have been touring the country by car the last few weekends. Boston one weekend, Pittsburgh the next, and New Hampshire the weekend after that. The ride itself is never fun, but it's always fun to see new places. Over the past few weeks the girls got to help open presents at their Aunt's bridal shower, drive an amphibious vehicle on the Ohio River, swim in Lake Winnisquam, and cross a spot-lit stage in front of 100's of fans. We have a short pause and then it's back up to Boston for Amy and Matt's wedding.
There are TONS of photos and video to upload. Stay tuned to the YouTube and Flickr pages for evidence of the summer fun.

Snip
Yesterday was haircut day for Linda and Elizabeth. Superwife took both girls to Jean Paul Salon, a real salon and not a kids place. This was Elizabeth's first real haircut (as opposed to a Mommy haircut) and she did wonderful. Both girls did in fact. They both look cute as ever and are ready for the bright lights of Hollywood.

Storytime
As part of Linda's bedtime routine Superwife and I tell her stories. Linda usually gives us an outline and we're left to fill in the blanks. For example; "Daddy, I want a story with Me and Elizabeth, an elephant, and a castle with walls made of iced cream." Having to create new stories nightly certainly keeps our imaginations pretty nimble.
Last night's story was a doozy. "Daddy, I want a story with you and Mommy getting married, a forest, a prisoner, a horse, and a coach made of a pumpkin with the front painted white and the back painted green."

Happy Birthday Papa

Where are the posts?
Where are the posts? That's a great question. I suppose I have not been keeping up the site so well lately. Things have gotten very busy over the past few weeks. Linda and Elizabeth both changed schools. They used to be in two different locations, but starting on 2 March they both moved to a new spot. Everyday their teachers tell me what a good job they are doing and how easily they acclimated to their new environment.
There are some new-ish photos on the Flickr page to see. Terry took some class pictures of Linda and Elizabeth's last day at their old schools. There are also some pictures of them painting and playing with their friend Mya.
Grammie and Papa are making the trip down next weekend so we'll be sure to post some new photos then.

Hair!
What happens to your beautiful baby locks when you pull the pony tail you've had in all day out? Don King happens, that's what! I think we may have to resurrect the Celebrity Hair Do blog just for these photos. And Elizabeth looks almost as crazy as Don King with those eyes (she does not like the flash).

Things Kids Say
It is times like this I'm happy to be a dad. Superwife just sent this to me.
Linda and I had an argument about who's best friend you were this morning. It went something like:
"Linda, what are you sulking about?"
"I just wish Daddy was home."
"Me too. Daddy is my best friend."
"Well Daddy is my bestest friend."
"Yes, he is sweetie. It's not actually a contest. We all love Daddy, and he loves all of us."
"He's my most bestest friend ever." (With defiance and a little bit of spite.)

New Photos, Movies, and Posts
I didn't have the time to keep a running diary of my time with the girls last week but I do plan on post dating my posts and adding them to the blog. Stay tuned and scroll down a bit to see some new posts over the next few days. In the meantime, I added some new pictures to the Flickr account and movies to my YouTube page. Click the links on the right to see the girls in action over the holidays.
Things Kids Say
Linda: Daddy, who is God's daddy?
Steve: God was the first person here and doesn't have a daddy.
Linda: I think God would miss his daddy.
I didn't feel like getting into the Holy Trinity, super being thing so I just left it at that. She seemed OK with the answer.
